Roland Sohier
(1950 / Rietveld Academy / All kinds of teaching posts and committees)
An old Dutch master in drawing. Monumental draftsman, although he also made sculptures. Relentlessly. The work process remains visible. Figurative but decidedly strange depictions. Lots of movement and acrobatic postures. Humor and irony provide lightness even when the subject is very heavy. Often engaged: unrest and times of confusion have to be “drawn out”.
